About me

Ayla Fitzpatrick is a dynamic communications professional, an experienced journalist, and a dedicated storyteller. She thrives on building strong connections, finding innovative solutions, and delivering impactful messaging through strategic marketing and public outreach. With a background in journalism and a master’s in homeland security, she brings a unique perspective to media relations, government communication, and community engagement.

Originally from Syracuse, NY, Ayla’s career began after graduating from Ithaca College in 2013 at WICZ in Binghamton. She worked as a reporter and weekend anchor, covering stories including President Obama’s visit to the Baseball Hall of Fame. In 2014, Ayla moved to Monroe, Louisiana, as the lead reporter and fill-in anchor at KNOE. There, she covered nationally recognized stories, including the Lafayette theater shooting, the first same-sex couple to receive a marriage license in Ouachita Parish, and the removal of the Confederate flag from school grounds. Ayla’s investigative work as part of a high-profile businessman’s sentencing earned an AP award for best team coverage. These experiences were where she began developing her ability to use the power of storytelling to inform, inspire, and bring communities together.

In 2015, Ayla joined News 10 ABC in Albany, NY, where she spent two years reporting on the political landscape, breaking news, and human interest stories. She covered major cases, including the Dean Skelos corruption trial in New York City, the Hoosick Falls water contamination, and the federal case against NXIVM leader Keith Raniere. During this time, Ayla strengthened her storytelling abilities and learned to shift that skill set to dynamic digital content. She also began developing her ability to collaborate with teams of different sizes and gained new leadership skills through managing and guiding other team members.

In May 2022, Ayla was hired as the Community and Media Outreach Coordinator for the City of Greer. In this role, she works closely with news media, tells the stories of the city, and leads the Neighborhood Services Program, which strengthens connections between local government and residents. She is passionate about helping people understand the impact of government services and ensuring transparency in public communication.

She resides in Greer, South Carolina with her husband Shawn, and their daughter, Spencer. When she’s not working, Ayla enjoys spending time with her dog, Gatsby, running, and seeing the world.
